Today is a world of social media. We’re all a part of the so-called ‘metaverse.’ We find it almost impossible to live without social media, considering its advantage when it comes to personal branding, marketing, and networking. It has made lives easier but it has also made us addicted to it for the worse.

We understand that social media is a big distraction for you, here are a few promising ways to stop social media from being a distraction.

Turn OFF all Notifications

This concept is simple logic. When you won’t see the notifications, you won’t be prompted to open your social media apps. Not entirely, but this method is successful at stopping you from opening your Instagram, WhatsApp, or Snapchat to a lot of extents. So keep those notifications OFF for all your social media apps, and leave no stone unturned.

Fix a Time for Social Media:

No one is asking you to uninstall your social media apps or deactivate your accounts. It is a useful practice to dedicate a fixed time slot to your sources of entertainment like you fix time slots for studying.

Use Phone Calls instead of Social Media for Communication:

Texting is notorious for causing miscommunication. So better switch to phone calls for communication instead of using the inbox of all social media programs. A cherry on top of the cake, phone calls save a lot of time.

Make full use of E-mail Services for Exchanging Course Material:

Now some of you must be thinking about how you are supposed to share course material without the facility of WhatsApp. Well, we have a very sophisticated metaverse of electronic mails, famously known as an E-mail. Gloriously make use of E-mail threads for conversations too; fun fact, you can segregate all your conversations and course material into ‘labels’ and even access them offline.

Practise Self Control:

Whatever methods or hacks you use, you NEED certain self-control to be away from social media. Without that, you’ll find yourself addicted and end up scrolling social media for hours at a stretch.

Keep Concrete Reminders around you:

Sticky notes, wall posters, written on journals, however possible, keep concrete physical reminders around you that keep telling you not to use social media. Seems like a silly method but it works to a certain extent as it keeps poking you when you derail.

Indulge in activities that do not involve an electronic device:

Gardening, giving a bath to your pet, going out to buy groceries, or cooking, any activity that makes you ditch your mobile phone for an hour or so is essential in your routine.

Ask someone for help:

Request an ally or family member to remind you when you’re distracted by social media. Ask them to let you know and keep you accountable.

Don’t worry! You aren’t being asked to ditch social media completely, you just need some conscious self-control and ways to distract your mind toward things more concrete than social media. Good Luck!
