Major Takeaways from the ICAI Webinar
The ICAI organized a very successful and effective webinar on April 25 on the Zoom, the Student portal and YouTube platforms in order to guide students on how to ‘plan, prepare and perform’ in the upcoming CA Intermediate examination.
Dignitaries from the Board of Studies – ICAI addressed the students directly, gave them tips, and pinpointed the commonly occurring errors by the students. According to them, it was found that maximum students know all the answers, but their performance lacks because they do not attempt the answers as needed. A clear lack of practice was revealed after the thorough analysis of answer sheets of aspirants from the past.
Listing down the major takeaways from the webinar for you to implement.
Daily Practise on the same time:
The Chairman started his keynote address by advising students to sit daily for 3 hours at the time slot corresponding to their exam timing, so students who have the 2 to 5 pm exam time should sit each day at that time without a single distraction and study. That, according to him, will put their mind into practice.
Avoiding Over Attempting and Over Writing:
Write according to the number of marks the question carries. Write only as much as required. Over-attempting won’t fetch you any extra marks, it’ll only leave less time for other questions. If it is a 4-mark question, do not write a 6 page answer.
Need of Conceptual Clarity for MCQs:
The director of the BOS, ICAI reminded all about the MCQ Digest and Booklet that they have curated for students to practise MCQs. She stressed upon the significance of conceptual clarity for making the MCQ attempt smoother.
Careful Reading of all Questions:
It was highlighted that students carelessly read the questions. If the question, for example, asks as to ‘how’ they will present a report for a particular clause, they end up writing ‘what is’ the clause; so there is a clear lack of attention to the questions asked. Make use of the 15- minute reading time to understand the questions.
Correct Numbering of Answers:
The biggest careless error that came into picture was the incorrect numbering of answers while attempting both theory and practical papers. It was suggested to be firmly sure and mention the corresponding Answer number and its subparts.
Step-Wise Layout of Sums in Practical Exams:
Both the Chairman and the Vice Chairman highlighted that the answers in the practical subjects need to have a ‘stepwise’ attempt as the sequence of the steps matter. So it was advised not to skip adding them one-by-one along with the final answer at the end.
Time Division:
The Director suggested leaving a ten-minute room at the end for revision of the attempted answers and correcting any silly mistakes or missing points. The Chairman advised that one should decide the amount of time to be given to each kind of answer. Spending a lot of time on just one answer will render you very less time for the remaining questions.
Work on Weaknesses:
The dignitaries tried to motivate the students stating that they should work on their weaknesses during the remaining few days of preparation. The key to bringing this into action is daily practice and affirming that they should believe in themselves by stating, “I can, I will and I must.,” the Vice Chairman said.
Looking forward to seeing you succeed with flying colors.
Wishing you all the very best..!
